The Schools Evaluation Authority (SEA) is an independent evaluation and rated Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School (RGJS) as outstanding in all areas, receiving the highest possible rating. The evaluators spent time in classrooms and playgrounds observing life at Rustenburg.
The outstanding reports achieved solidify the strong culture that continues to be evident. On 23rd of November 2024, the Schools Evaluation Authority (SEA) held its annual certification ceremony – recognising those schools rated as good and outstanding in terms of their evaluation process.
The SEA is an independent evaluation and rated RGJS as outstanding in all areas, receiving the highest possible rating. This has only been achievable through the valiant efforts of our amazing RGJS staff! The holistic education that we offer with all our programmes and activities cannot take place without the people who make it all happen under the leadership and mentorship of the Senior Management Team. Despite the many challenges that have crossed our path, one thing is clear. Our RGJS staff support one another in ways beyond measure! The healthy relationship between management and governance supports learning and growth as we have navigated the various possibilities this year, guided by the feedback received from our school community through the IDT survey and other feedback mechanisms in place at RGJS. Much of what we do is not possible without the support of parents, especially those who serve on various committees or volunteer their time at various school events.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to RGJS staff members for the incredible work you do every day. It truly does not go unnoticed. To have achieved a score of 4 (outstanding) in every category as well as for the overall score is a testament to your hard work, dedication and commitment to the school, the learners, the broader community, and, most of all, to each other.” Belinda Petersen, Principal at RGJS
The evaluators met with the principal, the School Management Team (SMT), subject leaders, other members of staff (teaching and non-teaching), parents, and learners (from all grades). Evaluators also met with representatives of the School’s Governing Body (SGB). These discussions were both formal and informal. Evaluators also observed learners’ behaviour at social times (before school, during breaks and after school), during formal tuition (teaching and learning) and observed learners moving around the school between periods. Evaluators visited lessons and reviewed samples of learners’ work. As part of this evaluation, thirty (30) lessons were observed in the following subjects:
- Foundation Phase: English Home Language; Afrikaans First Additional; Mathematics, Life Skills.
- Intermediate & Senior Phases (INTERSEN): Afrikaans First Additional Language; English Home Language; Creative Arts; Mathematics; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences.
The evaluators spent a total of 885 minutes (approximately 15 hours), observing lessons.

About Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School
Rustenburg Girls’ Junior is a beautiful school in the heart of Rondebosch. Although we cherish the traditions of our long history, our girls are provided with an excellent 21st-century academic, sporting, and cultural programme. The school is a happy, vibrant, and caring place and has a strong sense of purpose. Learning is important! The knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom are linked to the life lessons learnt during sport, music, cultural and community service activities. Teamwork, dedication, hard work, respect, consideration, and compassion for those less fortunate are some of the values we hold dear. Our girls are encouraged to develop thinking, problem-solving and research skills and to reach their unique potential. There is something for everyone at Rustenburg and the girls embrace the opportunities provided. They are enthusiastic, energetic and excited by each new experience.
