On Friday, 30th January, we celebrated 132 years of our wonderful school. We started this special day with a momentous assembly. Our youngest Rustybug, oldest Rustybug,  and Rustenburg Alumnae and guest speaker, Amy Joy Davids, walked into our assembly, holding the 132nd Birthday Candle.

Amy told amusing stories of her time at RGJS, like playing “Unicorn Unicorn”. She shared positive memories from a comment a teacher made and how those positive words still impact her today. Amy encouraged our Rustybugs to believe in themselves and not to give up. There are going to be tough times, but they only make you stronger.

Our Principal, Mrs Belinda Petersen, launched our theme for 2026, SHINE OUR LIGHT, after which Mrs Catherine Pike taught our Rustybugs, staff and guests our Shine Our Light Theme Song for 2026.

Our Alumnae enjoyed a tea and a tour of our school, reminiscing about the time spent in their “old classrooms”. Some even wanted to try on one of the Swap Shop school dresses and return to school!

Our Rustybugs enjoyed creating an inspirational light bulb in their classes and making a birthday cake in their Bug Buddy family groups. A birthday celebration isn’t complete without cake and ice cream, which is how we ended off our 132nd Founders Day!
