Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School (RGJS) will today (15th of September 2021) host Miss South Africa, Shudufhadzo Musida in person. Miss South Africa will be reading her newly launched book Shudu Finds Her Magic to our Foundation Phase girls. The children’s picture book is aimed at 5–9-year-olds.

In this courageous and beautiful book, Miss South Africa, Shudufhadzo Musida, tells the story of her upbringing: of a singing and dancing and chatty girl in a small village named Ha-Vhangani, surrounded by love and extended family. But things go wrong for Shudu when she moves to Mpumalanga to live with her mom. She is bullied by her classmates. Read how Shudu overcomes her sadness and her challenges, and becomes a girl, and then an adult, who has learned to love herself!

“The one lesson I learnt is that when something bad is happening to you, it is important to speak to an adult that you trust about it. This could be a parent, a family member, a teacher or an elder. Remember that being bullied is not your fault. There is nothing wrong with you. Nobody should have to go through what I went through.” – Shudufhadzo Musida

We are approaching national book month. The month-long celebration focuses on the importance of reading, writing and literature. National Book Month is also a time to honour the country’s best books and authors. RGJS librarian Jenny Wates says “we are particularly very excited to host Shudufhadzo, such a prominent person that will be able to share authentic African stories that will inspire our girls to find their magic, more especially because our theme this year is ‘the Magic happens Here’.”

Principal at Rustenburg Girls Junior School, Belinda Petersen, said “It has been such an honour to host a phenomenal role model like Shudufhadzo Musida and give our girls the opportunity to meet her and hear her real life story. Her grace and humility transcended through her reading and she happily engaged with the girls. I am sure her book will impact the lives of many children.”

ENDS.
