Extramural Activities

What’s on offer

Our aim is to provide an environment that fosters a love for learning and exploration. One that creates a space that encourages pupils to actively participate in a broad blend of academic, sporting, cultural, social and spiritual activities.

Rustenburg also offers a collection of cultural and musical activities which encourage learners to develop new skills or reach out to the community, while having fun at the same time. An atmosphere of cooperation and sharing is actively encouraged.

Private Extramural Activities (paid for by parents)

Should you wish to enroll your daughter in a private extra mural activity, please make sure it does not clash with any school sport, cultural or musical activity as this takes priority over private extra mural activities. All communications must be dealt with directly with the external facilitator of each activity.

Sports

Sports Excellence

We take pride in sports excellence.

Sports enables learners to understand that success and failure isn’t measured by wins and losses, but by achieving personal excellence, we give the girls the best opportunity to succeed in sport and life.

Swimming

Rustenburg prioritised sport activities based on the importance & benefits it will serve each learner in the future and in their individual capacity to grow, swimming is an ideal sport to nurture in our girls. Our swimming lessons equip learners with the safety skills to learn how to cope when they are in a swimming pool. We strive to build the learners’ confidence in every sport they participate in.

Grade 1 and 2 learners take part in a rotational sports development program. The program includes one Games Day after school (13:30 – 14:30) for Grade 1s on a Tuesday and Grade 2s on a Wednesday.

This allows each child the opportunity to try all sports before having to choose a specific summer & winter sport in Grade 3.

Creative Arts

The purpose of Creative Arts is to develop learners as creative, imaginative individuals, It also provides basic knowledge and skills to enable participation in creative activities. In relation to learners, the creative arts are activities that engage the girl’s imagination and  include activities such as art, drama ,and music to be a part of their future.

Art

Learners expressing themselves through creative mediums is as important as academic participation in our curriculum. Paintings, drawings, papier-mâché, mobiles, paper and ceramic sculptures and other artwork adorn the classrooms and passages of our school. These are the products of art lessons, enjoyed by all Rustbugs. Learners are given the opportunity to challenge a wide variety of creative exercises, using colour, design and an expansive selection of media and materials. Art Exhibition and auction is held to present and motivate all the girls’ artistic accomplishments for the wider school community to enjoy.

Music

Music enriches the daily life of Rustenburg Girls. The extramural programme and overall enriching learning experience provided in the school and through entertainment. The Music Department promotes the aesthetic sensitivity of our learners, nurturing every girl’s individual level of musical talent, and provides opportunities to explore music, acquire theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills on instruments. An appreciation for music of all cultures and periods is taught through class music lessons.

All our ensembles, orchestra and choirs continue to build on the solid reputation developed over the years and the department gets outside recognition as medal winners at Eisteddfods, at regional and national level.

Speech and Drama

During Speech and Drama lessons, the girls participate in activities which aim to extend them dramatically and creatively with a strong emphasis on effective communication. The girls gain confidence and learn to deal with varied situations by working in groups and presenting collaborative work to their peers and teacher.

The Foundation Phase and Intermediate/Senior Phases each produce a concert every four years, which is always a highlight for the girls and greater Rustenburg community.
